Solid Foods Quiz
Eating Solid Foods

Making the transition from breastfeeding or bottle to solid foods is a big event for both you and baby. It's not just a matter of getting nutrition in a new way - it's a whole set of skills and enjoyments. All babies are different, and have their own preferences about what they like to eat, and when they're ready. If you have other children, you may be surprised by how different your new baby is from big brother or sister. It's important that you follow the individual cues of your new baby - each to his or her own!

To determine if your baby may be ready for solid foods, take this quiz:

Is your baby four months or older?

Has your baby doubled his/her birth weight?

Does your baby consume 32 or more ounces of breastmilk or formula each day?

Does your baby sit with little support?

Does your baby turn his/her head away when he/she is full?

Does your baby frequently put things in his/her mouth?

Does your baby watch with interest as you eat, perhaps even opening his/her mouth and leaning forward as if to ask for a bite?

Can your baby move a dab of thinned baby cereal to the back of his/her tongue and swallow it?
